Alan A. Symonette, Labor and Employment Arbitrator

Introduction

Alan Symonette has been a full-time labor and employment arbitrator since 1988. He also is the president and owner of Symonette ADR Services, Inc. located in Media, Pennsylvania.

Experience

Mr. Symonette has conducted numerous grievance and interest arbitrations in both public and private sectors throughout the country. He has particular experience in issues involving airlines, utilities, education, including higher education, utilities, sports, law enforcement, health care, public sector employees, and firefighting.

Remote Sessions Available

Arbitrator Symonette is available to hear and resolve disputes remotely.  He is experienced in working with a number of videoconference platforms including Zoom and Microsoft Teams.  Please email Mr. Symonette if interested.

Associations

A member of the National Academy of Arbitrators since 1996, he currently serves on the labor panels of the American Arbitration Association, Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, National Mediation Board, the Pennsylvania Bureau of Mediation and the Public Employment Relations Board for the U.S. Virgin Islands. Mr. Symonette currently serves as President through May 2025.

Mr. Symonette is also a fellow with the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers where he serves as its former President. He also currently serves on the Advisory Board of the Scheinman Institute, Cornell University School of Industrial Relations, and is Treasurer of the Ray Corollary Initiative.

Mr. Symonette is active in the American Bar Association, Labor and Employment Section, where he has served as the neutral co-chairperson of the ADR in Labor and Employment Committee; the former neutral co-chairperson of the Pro Bono Committee; and is currently serving as an at-large member of the ABA Labor and Employment Section Council. He is also currently serving as liaison to the Section's Treatise Committee.
